Term 4, Week 4

A Visit From a Rabbit...

This morning we were lucky enough to be visited by a rabbit named Coco. Coco belongs to Nevaeh and she is a young lop-eared rabbit. We had heaps of fun looking at Coco hop around the circle and some of us even got to pat her! We had to be very quiet because she has big ears and doesn't like loud noises. She is very cute! Take a look...

Term 4, Week 2

Growing Inquiry

This week we have continued our growing inquiry by producing some awesome collage artwork that shows the different parts of a flowering plant.
Our plants have roots, a stem, leaves, a flower, petals and some even have seeds in the center of the flower.
We will be presenting our artwork at assembly today!

Take a look!

Term 4, Week 1

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 4, Room 8! We have lots of exciting learning and events planned for this term!
Please remember to bring your hats back to school by week 2. It is very important that we wear our hats everyday while we are outside in the playground. As the weather gets warmer, it is also a good idea to bring a drink bottle to school each day. These may be kept in class on the back bench.

Growing Inquiry

This week we have started our 'Growing' inquiry unit, by planting our New World 'Little Gardens'. We are going to be keeping an eye on our gardens in class and then we will (hopefully) re-plant them out in the school garden. We can't wait for our 'Little Gardens' to start sprouting!

Here are some photos of our gardens...

Yesterday we also started learning about the life cycle of plants. Miss Smith gave us the challenge of organising a group of pictures in the correct order to show the life cycle of a sun flower plant. At the start some of us put our pictures in a line starting with the seed and then finishing with the dead sun flower. But one group had a different idea... They put their pictures in a circle to show that once the sun flower dies, the seeds in the middle drop out and start growing again! It's an endless chain.

Check out our awesome learning...

Term 3, Week 9

End of Term

Wow! We have come to the end of Term 3 already! We have had a fabulous term filled with lots of learning and fun. We have been focusing on working together as a team, and striving to fill our 'class bucket' with positive behaviours, manners, and kindness. We have been successful in filling our bucket, so today as a class treat, Miss Smith is buying us hot chips for lunch! We are so excited to celebrate our achievements together at lunchtime.

Room 8, I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday! I look forward to seeing you next term on Monday 10th October.

Term 3, Week 8

Olympic Rower Robbie Manson

We were very fortunate to have Robbie Manson come and visit us today. Robbie is an Olympic Rower and competed at the Rio Olympic Games earlier this year. He is also a friend of Mrs Knyvett. We had a fantastic time with Room 10 asking him questions about rowing and the Olympics and we have come away with so much new learning. He showed us two of his rowing medals that he has won recently as well as two different rowing suits that he has worn in past events.

Next term we will be taking a look at the design/technology process to create a new shirt for Robbie to wear while rowing. We are really looking forward to this!

Here we are having a great time with Robbie!

Term 3, Week 8

Life Education

Last week we were lucky enough to go and visit Mike and Harold at the Life Education truck. We learnt all about social relationships, what makes us who we are and who influences us.

We learnt about personality and how this influences our choices, likes and dislikes. Mike and Harold taught us a really cool rap about our personality...

Our personality
Controls the way we think,
Controls the way we feel,
Controls the way we act,
and the things we like to do!

We also talked about our circle of influence. This is the circle of people around us who influence the things that we do and how we feel. Everyone is influenced by different people. We also value and think different people or groups of people are important to us. For example lots of people think that their family and friends are really important to them and influence the choices that they make. Others think that sports teams and classmates are really important too.

We are all different and unique!

Here are some photos of us visiting Mike and Harold!

P.S. Harold the Giraffe told us a joke (it was only kind of funny but we had to pretend to laugh so we didn't hurt his feelings). It was...

"How do you catch a unique rabbit?... You-'nique' up on it!"

Term 3, Week 7

Charlotte's Web

This term Room 8 have been listening to the novel Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. When Miss Smith reads out loud to us, we have to visualise and make pictures in our heads because there are not many pictures in the book. We have practised this by shutting our eyes and listening to the chapters and then talking about the pictures we make in our minds. This is really cool because we all imagine different things!

Charlotte's Web is an awesome novel about a piglet named Wilbur who gets raised by his human friend Fern. Wilbur has many adventures on the farm but when he finds out he might become the Christmas dinner he gets the help of his friend Charlotte to save him. Charlotte, however, happens to be a spider, and Room 8 are about to find out how a small creature like Charlotte the spider can save a big pig like Wilbur.

We used our class novel to inspire our calendar artwork for this year.
Check it out!

These will be coming home at a later date for families to purchase as a calendar. Until then, please feel free to come and have a closer look at our fantastic artwork in our foyer.
